READING. RANTING. RAVING.
“I have lived a thousand lives and I’ve loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.”

"... your life would be better if you learn to accept those things you don't necessarily understand right away." - Alex Westmore Start Date : August 2, 2020 End Date: August 2, 202 Actual Rating : 4.3/5 There are beings with supernatural powers among us... and they are done blending in. A group of supers are on the hunt to get the strongest supers to join their group. For them, only the strongest are worthy and everyone else, including the normal people, are meant to ruled over. All that stands in their way is a cadre of under trained supernaturals and their paranormal allies. Is their power enough to stop the strongest among their kind? I picked this book up in the morning and I didn't expect it to be such a page turner. The story is fast paced and the characters are . I love that there are a lot of strong women represented through out the story even if the main protagonist is a man.
Closest analogy I can think of is if Cyclops of X-Men was reluctant to lead but is pushed by circumstance to be a leader. Tomas is the Cyclops of this story. He have the qualities to be a good leader and teacher but is averse on taking up the mantle. As a serial killing of supers gets the attention of his mentor, he and his girlfriend (Frankie) are asked to investigate the matter. The story starts from an investigation of the situation to a full on last stand battle. Although I felt this book was a light read (or maybe I just read it too quickly) the story itself is very packed. The writing of the story has a nice flow. Even the parts where there are no fighting happening, it is still very interesting. Since the setting of the book is our every day world, it was easy to be immersed in the story. Although it is a super powers books, I feel that the story line is refreshing and does not wholly concentrate on action scenes. The book can really stand alone. It has interesting characters that as a reader I was invested in. The whole situation with the "elitist" supers were nicely resolved and there was somewhat conclusion on the personal story line of the different characters. However, it also serves as a great prequel to the Shattered Echo. It is engaging enough that it made me curious to read Shattered Echo (included in my Scribd subscription). Although the story lines of each character was nicely wrapped up, the world created by Alex Westmore is really alluring that as a reader I'd want to explore it more. It is like visiting a different place for a vacation that although you had thoroughly explored, you will wish to visit again and again cause you know there are more gems for you to discover.
